Step Right Up!

Hey everyone! January's almost over. Hallelujah. Gotta love February. The shortest month!
I would like to annouce our new contest here at 626secondstreet.blogspot.com. The name of it is Name the House. All the news Second Street houses will have names, so put on your thinkin' caps and come up with some goodies. You can enter as often as you want to. The grand-prize winner (selected by the Cassy family, of course) will win an original painting of the new 626. Ain't that exciting? So, send in the names, people. You can either make suggestions on the comments here on the blog or e-mail me at sally.lyon@gmail.com. When thinking of name, consider everything: the location, the color, the Cassady family, whatever you want. Most important, though, have fun! The creative bird always gets the worm.
Have a fab weekend.

Proud to Be Title Free

Good afternoon readers of the blog. Today's pictures show the steady progress on the inside of 626. Looks like someone got to eat a box of Krispy Kremes. What I wouldn't give.... All we have in Oxford is Shipley's Donuts, and while tasty, Shipley's just don't have that special something you can only find in a genuine Krispy. Plus, Krispy is always open and almost always Hot-N-Now. For those of you who don't have the Krispy in your town and have never experienced a Hot-N-Now, right-out-of-the-icing-waterfall donut, you're really missing out.
Anyways, these pictures are relatively self-explanatory. I hope everyone has dynomite weekend plans. We sure don't. Well, we are going to try and see if this new bowling alley in Oxford is any good... But, really, I mean how good can a bowling alley be? To tell you the truth, I'm saving my energy for the Saints/Bears game Sunday. I don't really want to talk to much aboput that though... Don't want to jinx them. But everyone please think of Deuce and Reggie and Drew and all the Saints tonight when you say your prayers. Who dat!

Old Mother Hubbard...

Got some new cupboards! Don't they look terrific? I'm liking the green stain. Goes well with the yellow paint on the walls. Snaps also to whoever decided to stain the window panes instead of painting them. Nice touch!

As you all can tell, 626 is coming along nicely. We have bricks around the bottom of the huge slab now, to cover up the cement blocks, and the front steps are nearly finished. It looks like the kitchen will be a great room. I can't what to cook up a mess of greens, folks. In fact, that color green on the cabinets is a turnip green green, huh? Pot likker, maybe. And the yellow is almost a cornbread shade. Ooh I'm getting hungry.

I would like to take this time to introduce you all to the latest addition to the Lyons-in-Oxford family. Pictured below is our new puppy, Scout. She is named after Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird because they are both from Alabama. Scout's about 13 weeks old, loves rawhide and peanut butter. We think she's part Staffordshire Bull Terrier, but on the dotted line, she's mixed.

I hope you are all having a great Thursday. Laters rollerskaters.

Happy New Year

Hello friends. Hope you all had the merriest of Christmases and the happiest of New Years. I'm looking forward to 2007. I think it'll be a total smash. For those of you who had the pleasure of visiting 626 Version 1, you may recognize something in the top 2 pictures. Look very closely at the ceiling. Notice the boards? Well, this is the cypress ceiling that we had in the Back Room of the first 626. It was all taken down, stored in the Broadmoor back yard, and reinstalled in the new living room of Casa de Cassady. Pretty neat, huh? The kitchen and dining room ceilings will be pressed tin like we have in all the old stores in Oxford. My photographer tells me that some crown molding has been installed in some rooms, too. Swank!

The last picture is of all of us on Christmas Even on Sanibel Island, Florida. Actually, this restaurant, the Mad Hatter, is on Captiva, a little but north of Sanibel. It was a splendid meal, but I am glad to be back in Mississippi. Face it: I am a homebody.

Hope St. Nick brought you all everything you asked for: Easy Bake Ovens, Kermit the Frog Puppets, and Cotton Candy Machines galore.
